DENVER — The University of Colorado's (search) regents have scheduled a special meeting to consider a professor's essay that said victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks deserved to die because they were a willing part of "the mighty engine of profit."
The essay by Ward Churchill (search), chairman of the ethnic studies department and a longtime Indian activist, was written in the aftermath of the attacks. Its contents became known when he was invited to speak at Hamilton College (search) in Syracuse, N.Y.
Some relatives of Sept. 11 victims have protested the college's decision to allow Churchill to speak on Thursday, the same day the Colorado regents will meet on the university's Fitzsimons campus.
CU Provost Phil DiStefano last week said Churchill's views do not represent the university, but he had a right to express them.
A critic, U.S. Rep. Bob Beauprez (search), R-Colo., said that because Churchill is tenured he apparently is immune from any sanctions by the university but should apologize. There was no answer at Churchill's office phone Sunday, and his private phone is not listed.
Following the attacks, Churchill wrote an essay, "Some People Push Back: On the Justice of Roosting Chickens," that hailed the "gallant sacrifices" of the "combat teams" that struck America.
He said although the victims were civilians they were not innocent. He went on to describe the World Trade Center victims as "little Eichmanns," a reference to Adolf Eichmann (search), who organized Nazi leader Adolf Hitler's plan to exterminate Europe's Jews.

OK, I got a few questions.

First, how in the hell is this moron, Churchill still on tenure? Any other prof made these statements they would be canned and then sued? Why is this guy immune?

Second, what did the workers in The Towers and the passengers on the planes do to contribute to some great machine or engine? They weren't cogs you useless sack of crap! They were people, that died horribly! And maybe you should have gone with them. Trade 3000 people for some peyote smoking prof. Good trade, let him die not the rest.

Third, anyone else feel this guy should be deported?

Voter Difficulties, NEVER COMPLAIN AGAIN

OK, as you know waiting in line to vote is said by some as inexcusable and a travesty. In Ohio, in 2004, people waited over 5-8 hours in line, to vote. Yes, that's inside the USA. In other states, it was just as long. Machines did not always work and some locations were even closed or relocated. The election was done, but people still had an agenda. Despite Barbara Boxer's crocodile tears and well paid liberal attorneys, the election was not changed. Bush won. People will still complain about the election difficulties. The papers, the machines, the cards, and all of the other crap that is taken for granted.

Next time before you whine about voting and it's problems and not having time. Remember the following:

1. In Iraq, you got shot at if you went to go vote. In America, you got huffy in a line, with no hollow points aimed at you. Cry me a river, for waiting America, people died waiting to vote in Iraq and Afghanistan.

2. The ballots in America are no piece of cake. But imagine, the Iraqi ballot. It's no butterfly simple ballot. It's like an octopus or mutant centipede. Over 50 candidates and 100 parties. Try doing that ballot on your lunch hour.

3. You complain about 2 parties in America. Well, it's two parties and some other choices, OR one party under Saddam and if you don't like it. You could either get shot, stabbed, hanged, beheaded, dunked in acid, gassed, dismembered, blown up with a grenade around your neck, tortured, punched, watch your family be tortured and all other manners of stuff that would have made Himmler and the SS cringe. Too few choices, huh? Try one party with genocide in mind.

4. Elections don't seem fair? Tell that to the relatives who saw all of their loved ones die before freedom was initiated. Tell that some lady who got stoned for adultery but lived to flee the country and then move back to vote after the regime is gone. Life isn't fair, and neither is voting for those who died. Get over it, for God's Sake!

5. Machines don't work good enough? How about paper and no machines.

6. Voter fraud? Iraq has one on us. Dip your finger in dark permanent ink. The whole danged finger! No beard shaving. No false IDs. They will check your hands at the door! No problems, yet I gather.

7. Don't have the time? Try dodging bombs and snipers to vote, because it's your duty to your land and an affront to the terrorists. Imagine running the 300 yard dash with a guy spraying the area with a frickin Draganoff. Take time to vote. Some risk time and lives to do it.

8. Candidates don't seem worthy of any vote? Try the former regimes with Uncle Saddam as the one choice or even the Taliban where the mullahs ruled. At least when Viktor Yuschenko was poisoned he came back. Cowboy up and choose your candidate. Ask the people of Ukraine, Afghanistan, and now Iraq on how it feels to vote even if the guys aren't all perfect. And now, some women are running, unheard in those lands.

Think about that when you opt not to vote or complain because Bush or someone else you did not like won.

Voting is not just some privilege or right we have, it's a God given right that many risked their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor for, to paraphrase the Declaration of Independence.

Don't ever complain about the election, EVER AGAIN.

World Glad Iraqis Voted, It Would Have gone easier if you helped earlier....

Yesterday Janruary 30, 2005, the Iraqi people voted in the first real Presidential and general election since the country's inception. Over 70% of the Iraqi voting public made it to the polls. About 44-48 were killed in attacks, but the Iraqis made it and voted. Their badge of honor, was an ink covered finger to show they voted once and only once allowed. A country once under a brutal dictator for over 25 years is now determining it's own destiny.

Our allies were the first to offer congratulations. Both Tony Blair and Silvio Berlusconni offered their statements and praised this as a light in the Middle East. Blair added that this justifies the decision to liberate Iraq, despite imperfect intel and execution. Poland, Japan, Australia and others applauded it. This is the group that supported the invasion and liberation of Iraq.

Of course, we now hear from those who opposed the war, and our involvement. Germany siad it was a historic day and offered their gravitas. Jacques Chirac, a known supporter of Saddam and a key party in the Oil for Food Scandal, gave his obligatory well wishes. Putin of Russia offered the usual congrats, but also added the rights of the Sunni minority should not be overlooked. Putin was being congratulatory but also being careful to sound firm. China and all who vetoed offered their compliments to Iraq.

That is fine and all, but here is my thought: Wouldn't it have gone easier and better if you guys FREAKIN HELPED US IN THE FIRST PLACE? Wouldn't Iraq's liberation and reconstruction also flowed better with more aid? In short: THANKS, BUT WHERE THE HELL WERE YOU GUYS TWO YEARS AGO WHEN WE NEEDED YOU?

It's about as bad as the party thrown for a friend and the free loader joins in the antics, without bringing a gift or offering congrats or effort until it would seem opportune. The party crashers from abroad are no exception.

I think what is owed is an apology to the Iraqis.

Here it goes:

I (say your name oh head of state) of (country and title thereof) do offer congratulations on your recent exercise in freedom. However, I offer and apology. I am sorry. Me and my country apologize for blocking your freedom in the form of a UN Veto. Yes we voted against force and military action to liberate your land and remove the menace of Saddam Hussein. For that I must apologize.

I must also apologize for arming and supporting this thug. We had supplied weapons, money and other aid to Hussein. No doubt he used it to enrich himself, his palaces, and his troops. Our money and training may have also been used against you and millions who are in mass graves. For supporting this modern Hitler words cannot express our regret and sorrow in this.

We must apologize for not offering to rebuild your land. We pledged meager sums to this, yet sent more to a tsunami, which is tragic and non-preventable, BUT not to your situation which we antagonized and nutured in the negative. Our biddings and squabblings did nothing to rebuild hospitals, bridges, telephone and electrical wiring. Our bickering did cost you. I am sorry for that also.

Furthermore, we did nothing to correct our past misdeeds. We contributed no military or money aid in the removal of Hussein or the liberation of your land. True, some of us are so-called pacifists, and we have been beat in some baaaaad wars, BUT we tried to make up.

For these things and all other that are too numerous to address, we offer our apologies and hope for forgiveness as you take the freedoms which we denied you and we take for granted in our own lands.

Iraq is exercising democracy in a better matter now. Nothanks to some, and many thanks to themselves and some of their friends. To Iraq, I say good luck and God Bless you. We will keep a better eye on our new friends. To our real allies, Mr. Blair and Berlusconni and others, kudos to aiding and freeing the Iraqis and letting them make their choices. To all the rest, have you no shame or sense of decency?

Good luck Iraq, you chose to march toward the civilized world and away from tyrants. Keep striving.

But do not act as though you have received this fully, but keep striving in a manner worthy of what you have yet to fully achieve- Philippians Chapter 3, v. 11-15.

OK, I knew the Inaugural Honeymoon was over as of Friday Jan 21, 2005. However, if you didn't believe it, it's now back to bickering and backstabbing.

Examples:

-Ted Kennedy lecturing Alberto Gonzales on torture ethics, ironically water torture.
-Nancy Pelosi decrying Bush policies and saying "You really don't have to have very [good] communication skills if you have a couple of hundred people who will jump to their feet when you recite the ABCs," she said.

And she once said the DNC needed Christianity or religion. Well, screw that, I guess.

-John Kerry and Ted Kennedy both belittling the Iraqi elections- Kerry saying not to overhype it. Teddy, drunk again, saying we need to pull troops out also.
-Robert Byrd and 14 other Democrats unsuccessfully holding up the confirmation of Secretary of State Condi Rice. She won 85-15 vote in the Senate.
-Charles Schumer of NY also saying he will block Gonzales, like his pal Ted Kennedy.

Well, you liberals, I guess healing isn't jack for importance as opposed to getting your swipes in. Do keep up your childish tactics. Please, do so. 2008 and 2006 will be a hell of a lot easier wins if you keep loudmouths like Nancy Pelosi and Ted Kennedy in the lead car.

Well, it's early in the year and the fireworks are already going off. Obstructionism, sour grapes, and all other pettiness are back and going to get worse.

I guess that 60 Million to 55 Million vote difference wasn't a hint of the times changing and the DNC being out of lockstep with the US public. Neither was the 51% to 48% vote on 11/2/04. And that blip of gaining 6-7 seats in the US Senate and close to 12 in the House for the Republicans, was no alarm either.

They never learn and it shows. Have a fun four more years, I guess.

WASHINGTON — President Bush (search) told abortion foes on Monday he shared their support for "a culture of life" and claimed progress in passing legislation to protect the vulnerable.
"We need most of all to change hearts and that is what we're doing," Bush said as anti-abortion activists marked the 32nd anniversary of the Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion with a day of rallies, protests and other activities.
The issue took on new urgency with the likelihood of a high court vacancy.
Bush addressed marchers by phone from the presidential retreat at Camp David, Md., where he had spent the weekend.
Every anniversary of Roe v. Wade (search), the 1973 Supreme Court decision, prompts demonstrations by opponents and proponents of abortion rights. Activists on both sides of the abortion issue marched in demonstrations across the country Saturday, the actual anniversary of the Jan. 23 decision.
This year there is increasing speculation about Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist's (search) health. Three other justices have had cancer.
One or more court vacancies would give President Bush the chance to install another justice or justices who oppose the Roe decision, increasing the likelihood that at some point, the ruling could be overturned.
Bush conceded that a society "where every child is welcome...may still be some way away."
Still, he said, he was working with Congress to pass "good, solid legislation to protect the vulnerable." He cited his signing of legislation last year to outlaw certain late-term abortions.
"You know, we come from many, different backgrounds, but what unites us is our understanding that the essence of civilization is this: The strong have a duty to protect the weak," Bush said. He has said he supports a constitutional amendment to outlaw abortion, but has not actively pushed for it.
Bush also said that he would continue "seeking common ground where possible and persuading increasing numbers of our fellow citizens of the rightness of our cause. This is the path of the culture of life that we seek for our country."
On Monday, abortion opponents staged a rally before a march from the Ellipse to the Supreme Court. Other groups opposed to abortion rights were holding events on Capitol Hill.
NARAL Pro-Choice America has projected that 19 states would quickly outlaw abortion, and 19 more might follow suit, if Roe v. Wade were overturned.
Last week, Norma McCorvey, the woman known as "Jane Roe" in Roe v. Wade, asked the Supreme Court to overturn its 1973 decision.

By PENNY BROWN ROBERTSAdvocate staff writer U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia said Saturday that people of faith should not fear being viewed by "educated circles" as "fools for Christ."
The justice -- in Baton Rouge to address the Knights of Columbus Council 969 centennial celebration without charging a fee -- told a largely Roman Catholic crowd of 350 at the Holiday Inn Select that there's nothing wrong with "traditional Christianity."
"To believe in traditional Christianity is something else," Scalia said. "For the son of God to be born of a virgin? I mean, really. To believe that he rose from the dead and bodily ascended into heaven? How utterly ridiculous. To believe in miracles? Or that those who obey God will rise from the dead and those who do not will burn in hell?
"God assumed from the beginning that the wise of the world would view Christians as fools ... and he has not been disappointed."
Scalia praised "traditional Catholics" who say the rosary, go on pilgrimages, kneel during the Eucharist and "follow religiously the teaching of the pope," adding that "intellect and reason need not be laid aside for religion. It is not irrational to accept the testimony of eyewitnesses who had nothing to gain. There is something wrong with rejecting a priori (deductively) the existence of miracles."
The outspoken conservative justice -- known for his views on religion in America -- didn't shy from them during his visit to south Louisiana Saturday. He didn't discuss any specific issues before the high court, but did tell those in attendance they had "no greater model" for their faith than St. Thomas More.
The Catholic martyr and considered the patron saint of lawyers, repudiated Martin Luther and refused to endorse King Henry VIII's plan to divorce Katherine of Aragon or recognize the king as the supreme head of the Church of England. More was found guilty of treason and beheaded in 1535.
"I find it hard to understand people who revere Thomas More but who themselves selectively oppose the teachings of the pope," said Scalia, widely cited as a potential nominee for the position of chief justice when William Rehnquist leaves the bench.
"If I have brought any message today, it is this: Have the courage to have your wisdom regarded as stupidity. Be fools for Christ. And have the courage to suffer the contempt of the sophisticated world."
President Ronald named Scalia to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia in 1982. Four years later, Scalia was nominated and unanimously confirmed to the U.S. Supreme Court, taking the seat vacated when was elevated to the court's top post.
The Catholic justice -- raised in the New York City Borough of Queens, and the father of nine children, one of them a priest -- has become an anti-abortion hero to many in the American political right and a leading conservative voice on the court.
He has described himself as an "originalist," following the Constitution as written by the Founding Fathers, rather than interpreting it to reflect the changing times.
In November, while speaking to an interfaith conference at a Manhattan synagogue, Scalia made headlines by saying that a religion-neutral government does not fit with an America that reflects belief in God in everything from its money to its military.
More than a year ago, he removed himself from the Supreme Court's review of whether "under God" should be in the Pledge of Allegiance after mentioning the case in a speech and complaining that courts are stripping God from public life.
Last year, Scalia cast one of two dissenting votes in a 7-2 Supreme Court ruling that states may deny taxpayer-funded scholarships to divinity students. And in 2000, he stood with a majority of the court in upholding the constitutionality of taxpayer funding for parochial school materials in a Jefferson Parish case.
Louis McHardy, a Baton Rouge native who is retired executive director of the Nevada-based National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges, called Scalia "one of the nation's heroes."
"His message to me is that our constitution is all-encompassing," said McHardy, who attended Saturday's banquet. "It takes into consideration all points of view."
Rev. Miles Walsh, pastor of Our Lady of Mercy Church and Knights of Columbus chaplain, said Scalia's address convinced him that the justice is "committed to the transcendent principles he believes in."
The Knights of Columbus Baton Rouge Council 969 was founded in January 1905 by 30 men who were charter members. The organization founded the LSU Catholic Center, and over the years has supported orphanages, mental health facilities and hospitals.

What does this mean to you and me?

It means that this chief executive, our citizen and elected leader is swearing to do his best.

That the President will solemnly swear to faithfully execute the office of President of the United States.

Faithfully- to do so with devotion, unwavering loyalty, dogged work, and as a privilege and charge, not merely obligation or position.

Execute- put into affect in a manner reflective of America and its past Presidents.

President of the United States- Commander in Chief, Citizen in Chief, American in Chief, Leader, The Boss, Our Chosen Leader, Appointed Leader. United States- Land of America, formed and still being formed through over 230 years of revolution, war, change, and growth.

Preserve- preserve the best of America and the office of Chief Executive. Preserve our heritage our faith and our stance.

Protect- stave off enemies from America's shores and our allies. We have done this in over twelve wars, and one will be ongoing and a different one from the Revolution, Civil War, World Wars I and II, Vietnam, and even Desert Storm. Protect us from internal enemies seeking to weaken, subvert and destroy our Constitution, our traditions, our connection to God, and our land.

Defend- Defend our land when attacked from abroad and from within. Our Presidents have done so in the wars, and also from our own leanings and potential for flightiness.

Constitution of the United States- Our Charter as a Nation, a document written by men, inspired by God and his history of mankind, and is ever changing. Let us hope it will not lose its intent or purpose.

Now, "So Help Me God" is not part of the original oath. However, in Janruary 1789, George Washington added that. As not just a way to unite the religious in our colonies, but as a kneel to God our took us from Europe and helped us forge a new land which is still growing.

WASHINGTON — Following is President George W. Bush's inaugural address:
Vice President Cheney, Mr. Chief Justice, President Carter, President Bush, President Clinton, reverend clergy, distinguished guests, fellow citizens:

On this day, prescribed by law and marked by ceremony, we celebrate the durable wisdom of our Constitution, and recall the deep commitments that unite our country. I am grateful for the honor of this hour, mindful of the consequential times in which we live, and determined to fulfill the oath that I have sworn and you have witnessed.

At this second gathering, our duties are defined not by the words I use, but by the history we have seen together. For a half century, America defended our own freedom by standing watch on distant borders. After the shipwreck of communism came years of relative quiet, years of repose, years of sabbatical - and then there came a day of fire.

We have seen our vulnerability - and we have seen its deepest source. For as long as whole regions of the world simmer in resentment and tyranny - prone to ideologies that feed hatred and excuse murder - violence will gather, and multiply in destructive power, and cross the most defended borders, and raise a mortal threat. There is only one force of history that can break the reign of hatred and resentment, and expose the pretensions of tyrants, and reward the hopes of the decent and tolerant, and that is the force of human freedom.

We are led, by events and common sense, to one conclusion: The survival of liberty in our land increasingly depends on the success of liberty in other lands. The best hope for peace in our world is the expansion of freedom in all the world.

America's vital interests and our deepest beliefs are now one. From the day of our Founding, we have proclaimed that every man and woman on this earth has rights, and dignity, and matchless value, because they bear the image of the Maker of Heaven and earth. Across the generations we have proclaimed the imperative of self-government, because no one is fit to be a master, and no one deserves to be a slave. Advancing these ideals is the mission that created our Nation. It is the honorable achievement of our fathers. Now it is the urgent requirement of our nation's security, and the calling of our time.

So it is the policy of the United States to seek and support the growth of democratic movements and institutions in every nation and culture, with the ultimate goal of ending tyranny in our world.

This is not primarily the task of arms, though we will defend ourselves and our friends by force of arms when necessary. Freedom, by its nature, must be chosen, and defended by citizens, and sustained by the rule of law and the protection of minorities. And when the soul of a nation finally speaks, the institutions that arise may reflect customs and traditions very different from our own. America will not impose our own style of government on the unwilling. Our goal instead is to help others find their own voice, attain their own freedom, and make their own way.
The great objective of ending tyranny is the concentrated work of generations. The difficulty of the task is no excuse for avoiding it. America's influence is not unlimited, but fortunately for the oppressed, America's influence is considerable, and we will use it confidently in freedom's cause.
My most solemn duty is to protect this nation and its people against further attacks and emerging threats. Some have unwisely chosen to test America's resolve, and have found it firm.

We will persistently clarify the choice before every ruler and every nation: The moral choice between oppression, which is always wrong, and freedom, which is eternally right. America will not pretend that jailed dissidents prefer their chains, or that women welcome humiliation and servitude, or that any human being aspires to live at the mercy of bullies.

We will encourage reform in other governments by making clear that success in our relations will require the decent treatment of their own people. America's belief in human dignity will guide our policies, yet rights must be more than the grudging concessions of dictators; they are secured by free dissent and the participation of the governed. In the long run, there is no justice without freedom, and there can be no human rights without human liberty.

Some, I know, have questioned the global appeal of liberty - though this time in history, four decades defined by the swiftest advance of freedom ever seen, is an odd time for doubt. Americans, of all people, should never be surprised by the power of our ideals. Eventually, the call of freedom comes to every mind and every soul. We do not accept the existence of permanent tyranny because we do not accept the possibility of permanent slavery. Liberty will come to those who love it.

Today, America speaks anew to the peoples of the world:
All who live in tyranny and hopelessness can know: the United States will not ignore your oppression, or excuse your oppressors. When you stand for your liberty, we will stand with you.
Democratic reformers facing repression, prison, or exile can know: America sees you for who you are: the future leaders of your free country.

The rulers of outlaw regimes can know that we still believe as Abraham Lincoln did: "Those who deny freedom to others deserve it not for themselves; and, under the rule of a just God, cannot long retain it."

The leaders of governments with long habits of control need to know: To serve your people you must learn to trust them. Start on this journey of progress and justice, and America will walk at your side.

And all the allies of the United States can know: we honor your friendship, we rely on your counsel, and we depend on your help. Division among free nations is a primary goal of freedom's enemies. The concerted effort of free nations to promote democracy is a prelude to our enemies' defeat.

Today, I also speak anew to my fellow citizens:

From all of you, I have asked patience in the hard task of securing America, which you have granted in good measure. Our country has accepted obligations that are difficult to fulfill, and would be dishonorable to abandon. Yet because we have acted in the great liberating tradition of this nation, tens of millions have achieved their freedom. And as hope kindles hope, millions more will find it. By our efforts, we have lit a fire as well - a fire in the minds of men. It warms those who feel its power, it burns those who fight its progress, and one day this untamed fire of freedom will reach the darkest corners of our world.

A few Americans have accepted the hardest duties in this cause - in the quiet work of intelligence and diplomacy … the idealistic work of helping raise up free governments … the dangerous and necessary work of fighting our enemies. Self-government relies, in the end, on the governing of the self. That edifice of character is built in families, supported by communities with standards, and sustained in our national life by the truths of Sinai, the Sermon on the Mount, the words of the Koran, and the varied faiths of our people. Americans move forward in every generation by reaffirming all that is good and true that came before - ideals of justice and conduct that are the same yesterday, today, and forever.

In America's ideal of freedom, the exercise of rights is ennobled by service, and mercy, and a heart for the weak. Liberty for all does not mean independence from one another. Our nation relies on men and women who look after a neighbor and surround the lost with love. Americans, at our best, value the life we see in one another, and must always remember that even the unwanted have worth. And our country must abandon all the habits of racism, because we cannot carry the message of freedom and the baggage of bigotry at the same time.

From the perspective of a single day, including this day of dedication, the issues and questions before our country are many. From the viewpoint of centuries, the questions that come to us are narrowed and few. Did our generation advance the cause of freedom? And did our character bring credit to that cause?

These questions that judge us also unite us, because Americans of every party and background, Americans by choice and by birth, are bound to one another in the cause of freedom. We have known divisions, which must be healed to move forward in great purposes - and I will strive in good faith to heal them. Yet those divisions do not define America. We felt the unity and fellowship of our nation when freedom came under attack, and our response came like a single hand over a single heart. And we can feel that same unity and pride whenever America acts for good, and the victims of disaster are given hope, and the unjust encounter justice, and the captives are set free.

We go forward with complete confidence in the eventual triumph of freedom. Not because history runs on the wheels of inevitability; it is human choices that move events. Not because we consider ourselves a chosen nation; God moves and chooses as He wills. We have confidence because freedom is the permanent hope of mankind, the hunger in dark places, the longing of the soul. When our Founders declared a new order of the ages; when soldiers died in wave upon wave for a union based on liberty; when citizens marched in peaceful outrage under the banner "Freedom Now" - they were acting on an ancient hope that is meant to be fulfilled. History has an ebb and flow of justice, but history also has a visible direction, set by liberty and the Author of Liberty.

When the Declaration of Independence was first read in public and the Liberty Bell was sounded in celebration, a witness said, "It rang as if it meant something." In our time it means something still. America, in this young century, proclaims liberty throughout all the world, and to all the inhabitants thereof. Renewed in our strength - tested, but not weary - we are ready for the greatest achievements in the history of freedom.

WASHINGTON — One of Condoleezza Rice's toughest critics, California Sen. Barbara Boxer (search), drilled the secretary of state nominee on Tuesday, saying Rice's loyalty to President Bush on Iraq overwhelmed her respect for the truth.

"I personally believe that your loyalty to the mission you were given to sell this policy overwhelmed your respect for the truth," Boxer told the nominee during Rice's confirmation hearing.

Boxer, who two weeks ago held up congressional certification of Bush's election win after objecting to the Electoral College votes from Ohio, said Rice had directly contradicted herself in trying to sell the war to the American people by changing the story on whether Saddam Hussein (search) had nuclear weapons. Boxer also referred to the visual image and lasting impression Rice left when she warned that the smoking gun in Iraq shouldn't be a mushroom cloud.

"That image had to frighten every American into believing that Saddam Hussein was on the verge of annihilating them if he was not stopped. And I will be placing into the record a number of such statements you made which have not been consistent with the facts," Boxer said.
Rice returned fire by saying that Boxer should not try to discredit Rice when bad intelligence led everyone to think Saddam was reconstituting a nuclear weapons program.

"I have never ever lost respect for the truth in the service of anything. It is not my nature, it is not my character," Rice said. "And I would hope that we can have this conversation and discuss what happened before and what went on before and what I said, without impugning my credibility or my integrity."

She added that while the Bush administration "did face a very difficult intelligence challenge," it knew that Saddam Hussein was a troublemaker who was threatening neighbors, cavorting with terrorists and "was the world's most dangerous man in the world's most dangerous region" who had previously used weapons of mass destruction.

"But, Senator Boxer, we went to war, not because of aluminum tubes. We went to war because this was the threat of weapons of mass destruction in the hands of a man against whom we had gone to war before, who threatened his neighbors, who threatened our interests, who was one of the world's most brutal dictators and it was high time to get rid of him. And I'm glad that we're rid of him," Rice said.

Boxer, re-elected to a third six-year term in November, revealed before the hearing that despite Rice's expected confirmation to the post being vacated by retiring Secretary Colin Powell, she planned to press the nominee on her participation in the Iraq war planning, of which Rice was instrumental as Bush's national security adviser.

Boxer's opposition to Rice, who has been named as a possible opponent to Boxer in the 2010 Senate election, runs counter to that of the other Democratic senator from California, Dianne Feinstein (search), who introduced Rice during the hearing and called her a "remarkable woman" and the natural choice for the job.

Rice, who was raised in Birmingham, Ala., lists California as her residence after having served for six years as provost of Stanford University (search), Feinstein's alma mater. It's customary for nominees to ask home-state senators to introduce them at confirmation hearings.

Boxer, who is more liberal than the senior senator from her state, is on the opposite side of Feinstein when it comes to the Iraq war (search), having voted against the original authority given to the president to launch a war against Iraq. She said Tuesday that as long as people are still dying over there, she will continue to demand answers about how the strength of Saddam Hussein's weapons regime could be so miscalculated.

"If you were rolling out a new product like a can opener, who would care what we said. But this product is a war and people are dead and dying ... You have not laid out an exit strategy, you have not set up a timetable and you don't seem to be willing to a) admit a mistake or give any indication of what you're going to do to forcefully involve others," Boxer said.

Rice acknowledged that not all the intelligence was good, but the outcome was not in error.
"We have made, multiple, many decisions, some of which were good, some of which might not have been good. But the strategic decision to overthrow Saddam Hussein was the right one," she said.

Boxer also suggested that Rice was insensitive to the widespread death and destruction caused by the Dec. 26 Indian Ocean tsunami that killed more than 156,000 people because Rice called it a "wonderful opportunity" for the United States to reach out to countries in the Muslim world and build goodwill.

"If you're going to become the voice of diplomacy, this is just a helpful point when Senator Voinovich mentioned the issue of tsunami relief you said, your first words were, 'the tsunami was a wonderful opportunity for us.' Now, the tsunami was one of the worst tragedies of our lifetime, one of the worst, and it's going to have a 10-year impact on rebuilding that area," Boxer said.

Rice is likely to be confirmed by the Senate as early as Thursday, the day Bush is inaugurated, during an afternoon session of the Senate. She already has been working out of a temporary office at the State Department as she tries to get to know the vast number of employees there and operations. Stephen Hadley, the deputy adviser replacing Rice at the White House, has been running operations at the National Security Council in Rice's absence.

WASHINGTON — The Senate Foreign Relations Commitee on Wednesday confirmed Condoleezza Rice (search) as the nation's next secretary of state by a vote of 16 to 2, sending her name to the full Senate for approval.

Senators voting "nay" to putting Rice in charge of the State Department were Democrats Barbara Boxer of California and John Kerry of Massachusetts. The vote came after two days of tough questioning Rice, who currently serves as President Bush's national security adviser.

Ranking Democrat Joe Biden of Delaware said that while he "could easily see how I would go that way," he would vote for her confirmation out of a sense of optimism and a recognition that they will have to work together.

A full Senate vote could come Thursday afternoon after Bush takes the oath of office and attends a congressional luncheon.

If confirmed, Rice would become the first black woman to be the nation's top diplomat, replacing Colin Powell. Powell was delivering his farewell speech to State Department employees on Wednesday.

Before the vote during a second day of Rice testimony, Biden said Wednesday during the hearing that the goal of Tuesday's line of questioning was "not to play 'I gotcha' or embarrass the president but [to find out] what we learned, what we'd do different [in Iraq] … or, given a different circumstance, which we may face" in Korea, Iran, or Syria.

Also, if you're not concerned about the living you've insulted, think about the dead. We've lost over 1200 Men and Women in Iraq, since March 2003. We've lost many in Afghanistan fighting the war on terror. We lost over 3,000 on September 11, 2001. Each time you say you don't like America, is a glob of flem you just spit onto their graves. You have desecrated the dead and insulted their families. Many died preserving your right, more like privilege, to travel overseas and badmouth the US. Hey, were it not for Red and Blue state kids back in 1941, there'd be no stinkin Europe for you to step into and compare to your true homeland. Of course, how you act makes you more European than American. Think about those who died for your sake before you say America is a land to be ashamed of.

Also, think of those serving right now. Isn't the sign of division among the US citizens overseas, a sign that our troops are weak and easy to attack and kill? It can be and could up the body count. In WWII- Loose Lips Sank Ships. That may not have referred just to troop movements and shipping convoys. The overall livelihood and morale is enough of a weapon that the other side can manipulate or use for their own terrorists. Hearing about division amongst your worst enemy may embolden that attacker and they may think the weaklings are easier to kill and that they should all die. Congratulations, bracelet brigade, you've been indirect accessories to the terrorists stepping up attacks. Bunch of Quislings. Your actions are ammo for our enemies.

Here's a solution for all Americans. Wear a flag lapel pin. No smart-ass Blue Me In stuff or for my side, no Gloating pins. Let's all be Americans here. As a house divided cannot stand, but will fall- just as true in John as it was when Abraham Lincoln read it over our troops graves at Gettysburg. If you don't want to be unified in this time of war, then kindly leave the US. Renounce your citizenship now. We may be short a few, but we'll be less dead weight and less some possible moles and traitors.

Now is the time to be red, white, and blue, NOT just red state versus blue states.
September 11 proved terrorists don't care about age, race, religion, or region in their targets. We're all Americans and we're all marked. We're in this together, so let's act like it.

Inauguration Prayer Preserved But What Next?

This just in, a federal judge voted against an appeal to get any form of prayer or Bible swearing in banned at this year's inauguration. Thank God, literally.

Michael Newdow, a California doctor and lawyer and prominent atheist militant led this case. Newdow had lost a court case last year, in which he want the words ONE NATION UNDER GOD removed from the US Pledge of Allegiance. He officially took this case and made it a case, citing his daughter being hurt by the majority's religious intolerance and tyranny. Oddly enough his daughter was a Christian (much like Madolyn Murray O Hare's crusade to remove school prayer, which worked, for her son. O Hare Jr. is now a Christian minister and was long since disowned by his atheist family). Newdow also wanted the words IN GOD WE TRUST taken off all currency, buildings, and federal seals and mottos. He lost that case, on a technicality. Newdow was not the legal guardian or parent for his daughter. Dodged a bullet, more or less.

This most recent case, Dr. Newdow, sued to get any benediction and prayers removed from the inauguration. He felt it violated the separation of church and state provision of the constitution. Well, there are some problems with that. The phrase Separation of Church and State is never ever mentioned in Yea Old Parchment. Second, the First Amendment is as follows- The government shall make no laws permitting or establishing official religion and not to hinder the free exercise thereof. Free Exercise thereof, Newdow, you forgot that part. The constitutional issue was non-existent playing into the downfall of Newdow's newest rage.

The second part is tradition. There has been swearing in with a Bible since George Washington was sworn in 1789, in NEw York City, right where Wall Street now sits. There were prayers over Lincoln during his first and heavily secured inauguration, and of course when they did a toned down celebration due to the Civil War. Christian Prayers were incorporated in 1937, when Franklin Delano Roosevelt won his second term. LBJ did this prayer, on Air Force One after President John F Kennedy was pronounced dead in Dallas, hours after his assassination. Every President has said this- I, (their name) do solemnly to faithfully uphold, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States of America, and...... So Help Me God. If Newdow could have come up with a better phrase with as much meaning, then maybe, just maybe it.... Oh hell, it wouldn't have made it through. Sorry doctor, we're not changing 216 years of Presidential ceremonies and an important one at that, for your angry self. Sorry, Dr. Newdow, Bush swears in on a Bible.

Does this mean, we are completely out of the woods? Maybe, but maybe not. It depends on the judges and how they rule and what they ruled on. Newdow is still emboldened as the Appellate Courts never said that the phrase Under God was unconstitutional, in the California case. Newdow is taking another crack at Under God, again. Apparently a judge while ruling against him, was less than bold in taking on the issue. The back door was a quick way to stop one case, but not this particular issue.

The inaugural prayer issue was answered with a direct affirmation of law and tradition. The judge said this was not an unconstitutional action, and that trying to take away this oath was more harmful than good. Better, and at least stays the prayer in Presidential and civil servants' swearing in. Newdow may be licking his wounds on this one, but may go to smaller areas and laws. Look what happened to Roy Moore in Alabama.

All that can be done is to remember this- Blessed is the nation whose God is The Lord.... from Psalms. But remember what happened in Jeremaiah to the nations who turn from God and exchange lifesprings for cisterns. Blessed are His. Cursed are the rest. We must hold true not just for our comfort as the religious or even just the moral majority. We must hold true to preserve the life of America. At least until the Second Coming.

"24" Just TV or Reflection of the Times

OK, unless you've been in a hole since 2001, you know about the show "24".

This show is about Jack Bauer, part of the US Counter Terrorist Unit, part of Homeland Security. Bauer, played by Kiefer Sutherland, is an agent with a ton of baggage, problems every day, and one hour to solve part of a day. Each season is 24 episodes and each day is about 1 hour of what happens. Sounds simple, and interesting right? Riiiiiight.

"24" has dealt with terrorists from all over the world. The first season had Eastern Europeans and Serb bad guys. Season two, had Colombians wanting to gas the world, and The third season was Arabs. This year starts with Arab terrorists also.

24 shows how an agent may have to severely interrogate a terrorist to get info to prevent loss of life. It poses the question: If you were Jack Bauer and you know about a bomb or gas weapon, and you knew a terrorist had the info and would not talk, how far would you go to interrogate them and get the info in time to save lives? That question has since been posed, since after September 11, 2001. No Jack Bauer to prevent the loss of 3,000 lives. Or maybe there were and his direct superiors went into ostrich mode.

Recently, 24 came under fire for having a family of Arabs living in LA. They seem normal, dad on a cell phone and wearing henley shirts, mom making tea and desserts, and the son wearing a Walkman and going on the internet. All seems normal? Nooooooooo.

Why not? Well, mom, dad, and the son are all trained for terrorism. They are the perfect moles. They act apolitical, nice, and whatnot when neighbors are over. However, when doors are closed there are phones and computer chatter on bombing trains and plotting attacks on Downtown LA and on planes. The Mole Family is also not shy on killing pestering neighbors. This past week the son was dating an American girl and she had followed Junior to where dad's terrorist friends were holding the Secretary of Defense, hostage. American girl was called by the mother of the son and invited for tea and snacks. The girl is poisoned before junior can get her out. Mom proves to be a murderess. Dad was out killing other folks. Not an American family.

Arab groups complain that this perpetuates a myth that every Middle Easterner is a terrorist about to be activated like the Manchurian Candidate. That is not the case. Many may wonder when finding cells being busted in Oregon, Florida, Albany NY and possibly other areas that the media has not gotten to. The majority of Arabs are trying to be good, but have yet to fully J'Accuse the bad ones. Same problem in Iraq. Jewish groups and conservative political theorist David Pipes agrees with 24 and the dangers of sleep cells. It is just TV, but it could happen if we are not careful.

Also, there is portrayal of problems in bureaucracy and with the leaders. The President, new one, is portrayed neutral, but has to communicate with dozens of agencies within one sitting. The President must communicate with his cabinet and the new head of the cTU, Erin Driscoll. Driscoll is leary of many of her personnel and especially wild card Jack Bauer. Bauer had been a drug addict due to having to take a deep cover op so intense, he had to be a drug dealer in love with his product and ready to help the terrorists. Driscoll is also familiar with Jack's interrogation methods which include punching, kicking, and firing off guns. The methods work. This also shows how torn the government is to keep the public safe, but skirting the methods of torture that we think only our enemies did. Abu Ghraib is alluded to many times. The government is showed as flawed and imperfect, but the main and sometimes only line of defense for the citizens of the United States.

"24" also alludes to consequences of terrorism and missing info or not being able to catch everything. In the season premiere, Secretary of Defense Heller- William Devane, is abducted with his daughter in a motorcade ambush. Heller and his daughter are to be executed by 2 pm, Pacific Time and will be broadcast on the Internet. This is deliberately done to mirror the horror of the hostages that were beheaded by Al Zarqawi in Iraq. Jack Bauer is supposed to stop the executions. If not, then the Secretary is part of the list of murdered at the hands of terrorists.

All in all, "24" is some innovative and interesting action, but tries to be steeped in some sort of reality, minus Jack's daughter and family being abducted or in trouble EVERY hour, episode. "24" is an interesting take on the War on Terror, here at home. It also poses questions on myths and rumors on what goes on behind the scenes and what the media is not allowed to cover.

"24" gets 24 out of 24 rating.

Store Fires Employee Who Refused Service To Marine

FORT WORTH, Texas -- The owner of a local convenience store tells NBC 5 he has fired an employee who mistreated a customer who is also a U.S. Marine.

The firing comes in response to protests at the store as well as an e-mail campaign circulating throughout Dallas/Fort Worth. The e-mail, written by Heather Dowell, tells of her brother's treatment while visiting the store.

According to Dowell's e-mail, her brother, Jason Young, attempted to make a purchase at the One Stop Grocery and Grill on 8th Avenue in Fort Worth. The clerk allegedly asked if Young was a Marine, and when he replied yes, the clerk left the counter and never returned.
Outraged, Dowell began the e-mail campaign calling for the boycott of the store.
On Tuesday, several people protested the store as the e-mail continued to make its rounds.
According to the store owner, the incident was a misunderstanding and the employee in question was fired.

Thought I would pass this along.

On December 19th, 2004, my brother Jason F. Young Lance Corporal in the United States Marines was refused service at a convenience store named One Stop Grocery and Grill at 2001 8th Ave. in downtown Fort Worth, Texas.
He was refused service because he is a Marine.

He went in to the store and asked the clerk (a man of middle eastern descent) for a can of tobacco, at which point the clerk asked him if he was in the military. (He had on a USMC shirt) After my brother replied, "yes sir" the man said nothing to him and looked at the other middle eastern man in the back of the store. Then both men proceeded to go in to the storeroom and did not come out. My brother yelled back to them a time or two and they did not respond.
Jason waited a few minutes and finally left the store.

I am very proud of the way that my brother reacted to the situation. I can honestly say if it had been me I would have cleared their counter and taken my can of tobacco. It is not fair that these people come into our country and enjoy the freedoms that my brother and so many others have fought for. They do not respect our service men and women who have died for them to be able to be here. They do not respect our country, and personally I think they need to go back to where they came from.

My main point in writing this is to get the word out about this particular store and discourage people from shopping there. If they can't respect or even sell to the people that are responsible for the rights they have, then they don't deserve to be in business.

Do We Get It Now? Or How Much More Tragedy Has to Happen Before We Do?

OK, on December 26, 2004. A 9.0 Underwater Earthquake caused tsunamis to devestate South East Asia. The hardest hit areas were Eastern India, The Maldives, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and Thailand. Over 130,000 dead are suspected lost and many many more are expected to have died in this disaster. As usual, the aide is pouring in. Japan has pledged half a billion dollars in aid. The US has started with $350 Million and probably will add to that. The US is also deploying an armada of carriers and freighters to help in the aide. US Naval and Marine helicopters and planes are evacuating people to safety. Britain has pledged billions, and even Actress Sandra Bullock pledged $1 Million to the International Red Cross. So far, it seems like we are banding together. Right?

Wrong.

One Norwegian Delegate- Hegeland said that the US was stingy and not providing adequate enough aide. Hegeland apparently dislikes US troops defending his land and right to freedom, but prefers to take our cash. The delegate also took a swipe at the US, saying we ought to be taxed more. Sorry, we won't do that, Sven. Apparently to him and others, the US is a cash cow that should not get ticked when hind quarters are chopped at. Wrong assumption there kids. We took offense, but we're still helping.

A British Lady, also said that the US, Japan, and others had no right to form their own aid coalition as it would undermine the UN. I guess she couldn't stand the thought of that final nail hitting the coffin of the UN. Between Oil for Food, Veto-gate, unpaid tickets, and failure after failure overseas, the UN may be done for. Never say die, says this European.

Odd, that the folks preaching being united wanted to be divisive. Striking is also that our troops who were called baby-killers and Goths were now called on to airlift people out and help in the search for victims.

I guess a tragedy or war must hit some corners of the world for us to unite, but still others seem to need it hit close to home before they cast off their ways.

INAUGURAL PARTY CRASHERS?

Note to Inauguration Party Crashers, aka Peaceful Anti-War Protestors (Bull$%&#!), You will fail when you try and disrupt the motorcade on Janruary 22, 2005.

Here's Why?

1. Security- this is a post 9/11 Inauguration. Security will be tighter then most liberal anuses on election night! If an egg gets launched at Bush, then 15-20 sniper rounds will hit the tosser! If so much as a Nerf Football is bounced at The President, expect a SWAT Team and hundreds of cops to bounce on your heads! Enjoy Guantanamo you morons!
2. Bush will brush you off! He brushed off your morons outside Madison Square Garden, protestors all over the world, and you idiots who tried to interrupt his GOP Speech. He doesn't give a $hit!
3. Bush will kick kick your a$$. He had to throw elbows when Chilean security were pushing his agents around, he can handle you limpwrists! I've seen the Prez cut down trees with a chainsaw and an axe! Bring it on!
4. He's Texan, we don't care if you hate us, we'll just walk on by. If you try anything against his family, then it's on!
5. Security #2- If you think the Secret Service won't mace, kick, club, or shoot at your stupid butts, try the 250,000 Marines and Special Forces all a pager call away. Rummy will be there also, as will Cheney. Your luck won't be that good, as everyone in the Administration probably has a phone and can call in the Delta Force. If the cops and agents don't get you, the military will nab you! They took down terrorists in Afghanistan, Fallujah, The Philippines, and elsewhere. They can handle stupid egg tossing brats like you! There is no escape if you try a thing!
6. Line of Succession- If you graze or wound Bush, Cheney takes over. Cheney is way meaner, more aggressive, and his ticker is fine. Cheney is probably half Bionic Man by now! Also, if one shot is fired, the cabinet will be rushed into the biggest, baddest, most bomb proof bunker under DC. They did it on 9-11. They can do it again.
7. The Bush Family- between George kicking ass, his dad being a former President and NAVY Fighter Pilot, his brother being a big boy, and his kids and wife being in good shape. If you jump GW, it's gonna get ugly!
8. You guys lost the election, get the $#^& over it!
9. Most of America re-elected Bush! Most of America likes Bush! We don't like you very much if you keep pushing it!
10. You're the same protestors at every stinking event! Someone's got pictures of you! You will be known in every post office and Crime Stoppers Watch on TV! Your brazeness doesn't compensate for your stupidity!

So liberals, if you think you're gonna crash the Inauguration, you best read the top 10 reasons why not to.
