WHO'S ON FIRST
It's been brought to my attention, that as a Christian I should bring a better witness to Christ, and not be a rabid right winger. Funny, certain lefties say Christians and Republican trash are synonimous. Well, not every Republican will post the following......
Here's a message from my pastor at Houston's First Baptist.
It's entitled: WHO'S ON FIRST
Colossians 1: 9-11.
False teaching uses a Christian vocabulary, but not a Christian dictionary. -The bad guys use nice sounding terms, but in their mind and intent, those words matter not. The definitions are gray matter to them, as long as they can twist and lull others into a sense of relaxation.
OR, just cause utter miscommunication. -ex. The old Abbot and Costello "Who's On First?" skit. Who's on First. What is on Second, and I Don't Know is on third.
1. The Request: Knowledge of His Will (Eph. 1: 17-19) Knowledge (epignosis)- a quest for..... There's plenty of knowledge, just hard to find out which is sin or can be used for it. There is a General and Specific Will of God.
General, we know what is bad overall.
Specific, we know what is bad for us. (ex. We know what the Bible says about,........, however the individual choses to cut corners around......)
The General and Specific Will of God must never Contradict.
Our will must die to His (The Lord's) Will.
God Doesn't Bless Cutting Corners (which I've done.... countless times) ex.
God tells us to love others, and show them the way.
That's the general will of God. However, in the specific will of God, the individuals fallen, lost, or even just confused must take their walk. We can talk and talk and talk, but the other person must know the truth, the REAL TRUTH before they can walk.
Otherwise, it's Baptism by gunpoint, or by deception or sugar-coating......
11. The Route:
James 3: 13-18.
A. Spiritual Wisodom- the Overall look, the info.
B. Understanding- the specific look, applying that info, making sense of it.
-Wisdom is a slow and lifelong process, and is a lifelong venture. Just when you think you know it all, there's more after you get through it. The knowledge is not like learning meaningless work or legal terms, it's constant updates to living The Christian life, with God, not on our own.....
111. The Result.
A. Live a life that pleases God. It is possible. Eph. 2:10
1. Good works-----> God's will accomplished through God's people, by God's power, for God's Glory.
2. Growth in the Knowledge of God. Matt. 5: 16.
-It's easier to please God, than it is man.....
Some say Thy Will be changed, not Thy Will be Done. No, it should be Thy Will be Done, and change My Will.....
Otherwise, we miscommunicate and the Truth of God is lost. Something to think about and Lord Knows it's a working on me......
