Grand Old Party Pooper?
Teacher says principal ordered Bush portrait removed from classroom
JULY 21--A New York woman claims that she was forced from her teaching post by an elementary school principal who objected to her Republican activism and last year ordered the removal of a portrait of President George W. Bush from the educator's Long Island classroom. In a federal discrimination lawsuit, Jillian Caruso, 26, claims that she was improperly forced to resign her job by Birch Lane Elementary School principal Joyce Becker-Seddio, the wife of state Assemblyman Frank Seddio, a Brooklyn Democrat. In her U.S. District Court complaint, a copy of which you'll find below, Caruso contends that she was retaliated against by Becker-Seddio because of her political work, which has included volunteering at last year's GOP convention and membership in the Republican National Committee. Caruso, who taught first and third graders at Birch Lane, also claims that when the principal spotted the Bush portrait late last year--it was hanging among photos of other U.S. presidents--she "became outraged and insisted that the picture be removed." Caruso, who complied with that order, has named the Massapequa Union Free School District as the sole defendant in her action, which seeks unspecified monetary damages and a reappointment to her prior teaching post.

    Wow ...

If MY principal ever pulled a stunt like that, he'd be the one hauling MY ass into court ... for assault and battery.

I do'nt see what the fuss is. The pincipal ordered the picture takem down, and the teacher took it down. Period. End of story. You stain-glass right-wingers keep whining about too many law suits; well heres one for you right here. She should drop the suit, shut up, do as she's told, and teach the kids. Is'nt that another one of your right-wing policies?

Howie comes to the aid of the academic fascists, what a shock. Oh wait, the right wingists are in trouble, so they HAVE NO RIGHTS. Cram it, Howie.

Shut up? Do as she's told? Jawhol Mein Fuhrer.

    Leftwing Hypocrite= Howie.

Howie, you really are an asshole. Teacher didn't have a damn slant, and wasn't trying to brainwash people unlike your favorite profs Ward Churchill and Noam Chomsky. The difference between those hacks and you is that they duped enough people so they could bilk money and a title. You, on the other hand, fool no one.

    You're a hypocrite, period.

    Nick, Nick, Nick,

Post after post recently has been such a pleasure to read and debate, and now we come right back to this line of thinking.

Firstly, I think its pretty safe to say you need to read into the sarcasm in Howie's post. Marked mostly by the '...another one of your right-wing policies?'

Secondly, regardless of sarcasm, why are we back to the quick lashes and insults rather than your more recent track of intelligent conservative posts?

Anyways, I think his only real point is that it is fairly ironic that people speak out against liberal activists so very much when in fact this teacher is doing the same thing.

Now as it stands, I entirely agree with you and her - it is wrong, and should never have been an issue in the first place. But keep in mind, that is just my honest opinion and the same mindset that many leftwing activists have when they protest what they do (granted some just go along for the ride, but most genuinely believe in their cause).

In a more realistic tune (and one which I happen to disagree with): the principal employs the teachers and the teachers are to do as they are instructed. If there is a problem with the way the institution is running (which I think there is in this case), then the school board needs to be notified and to step in and resolve it. As such however, in the interim period, the non-biased answer in our country is that she should have removed the picture and informed the school board of the principals request/actions.

Again, please note that I am strongly opposed to her having to do so, but I think Howie was simply suggesting that the general (and more conservative) protocol in this country is to follow your chain of command (perhaps less it be life threatening, which this clearly is not).

So, while I commend her actions to leave and file suit for a blatent disregard of her rights, it does not change the fact that she was/is acting as an activist.

In addition, if she happens to be a really good teacher, who loses from this? --only the children.

She was not an activist and you damn well know it. The teacher was not sporting Bush Cheney stuff or O Reilly Factor and so on. You don't like her because she opposed the corrupt bitch principal that you agree with.

All of you liberals and so-called moderates can bite me, you two faced liars.

You must be on your period or something.

Please take 30 seconds out of your day to reread, or perhaps READ, what I wrote.
