Bush Approval Plummets on Iraq
]
A new Washington Post-ABC News poll finds that for the first time since the war in Iraq began, more than half of the American public thinks the fight there has not made the United States safer.
Who did they survey? Is it the same people or random people? Also, how was the question phrased? My answer, regardless, when was the last terrorists attack in the continental US, since Iraq was liberated and since they had elections?
Among the poll findings:
The survey found that Americans continue to rank Iraq second only to the economy in importance -- and that many are losing patience with the enterprise.
We lose patience when 24 doesn't have enough gunfire and Jack Bauer screams. Apparently this survey and poll is for the attention deficit disorder afflicted. Survey the troops and see what their feelings are? If we leave early, when do you want us to send our troops back, so we can FINISH this for the third time? Do we bite the bullet and finish here OR pull out and go back in and lose more????? What's the solution of the pollsters.
Nearly three-quarters of Americans say the number of casualties in Iraq is unacceptable, two-thirds say the U.S. military there is bogged down, and nearly six in 10 say the war was not worth fighting -- in all three cases matching or exceeding the highest levels of pessimism yet recorded.
Apparently these pollsters and their "random subjects" forget that while it sucks to lose about 1,600 men and women, here's a shocker: We lost over 1,800 Marines at Peleliu in 1944, at the height of WWII, we lost over 300,000 US Troops total in that war; about 2,800 at Pearl Harbor alone. Casualties stink, but they have been worse, remember that. And while this is a so-called quagmire, and called NOT WORTH IT, tell that to the freed Iraqis, Afghans, and soon to be freed Lebanese. Yes, freedom from the mass graves is not worth it. I wonder how many of those surveyed, had they been in WWII, would say Auchwitz and the Rape of Nanking weren't worth it? It would should us all, I imagine.
More than four in 10 think the U.S. presence in Iraq is becoming analogous to the experience in Vietnam.
This makes sense, but what they do not say is that our own politicians and the media are doing what they did in Vietnam. They undermined our troops and their efforts. While there's no massive protests, and now it's the same 100 cretins doing it, they're still at it, belittling the effort of our men and women overseas. Tom Hayden and Jane Fonda are even back for act II of the next Vietnam protests. Thankfully, they're not getting the attention they had in 1967-1973.
Perhaps most ominous for President Bush, 52 percent said war in Iraq has not contributed to the long-term security of the United States, while 47 percent said it has.
Again, how many attacks have occurred inside the US. Define security goals also. Either we keep the terrorists there and surround them, OR stop the fighting and wait for them to hit us worse than they did on 9/11. Oddly enough, this counters a March Poll by another News Outlet that showed many think Iraq made us safer. Conflicting polls. Enough said.
Overall, more than half -- 52 percent -- disapprove of how Bush is handling his job, the highest of his presidency. A somewhat larger majority -- 56 percent -- disapproved of Republicans in Congress, and an identical proportion disapproved of Democrats.
And again, who was polled? Check other polls and results. I imagine some vary and some complement these. Let history and posterity be the final verdict, not some outsider's polls.
If we went by polls, we'd have been cow-towing, to the UN, and of course the mass graves would still be filled with more and more victims.
Good luck America!
