CHENEY FIGHTS BACKWed Nov 16 2005 18:56:46 ETExcerpts As Prepared For Delivery Tonight by Vice President Cheney
THE VICE PRESIDENT: "As most of you know, I have spent a lot of years in public service, and first came to work in Washington, D.C. back in the late 1960s. I know what it’s like to operate in a highly charged political environment, in which the players on all sides of an issue feel passionately and speak forcefully.
To Cheney's credit, he did tell Patrick Leahy to go "f-ck himself." Not the best use of the King's English, but no less satisfying to Leahy and his Brigade of Cheap Shot Snipers.....
In such an environment people sometimes lose their cool, and yet in Washington you can ordinarily rely on some basic measure of truthfulness and good faith in the conduct of political debate. But in the last several weeks we have seen a wild departure from that tradition.
Calling the President a liar, morally bankrupt, impeachable, etc......
And the suggestion that’s been made by some U. S. senators that the President of the United States or any member of this Administration purposely misled the American people on pre-war intelligence is one of the most dishonest and reprehensible charges ever aired in this city...
Senators Kennedy, Kerry, Levin, Biden, Leahy, Boxer, Feinstein, Durbin, former Senator Edwards, Former VP and Senator Al Gore. Congresswomen Pelosi and Waters, Congressmen Kucinich, McDermott, and many many more. Talk about a stray from decorum and normal behavior. Oh wait, their behavior is normal for liberals.....
Some of the most irresponsible comments have, of course, come from politicians who actually voted in favor of authorizing force against Saddam Hussein. These are elected officials who had access to the intelligence, and were free to draw their own conclusions.
See the previous post on Democrats statements on Iraq and WMDs pre-2003. Link: http://www.glennbeck.com/news/01302004.shtml
They arrived at the same judgment about Iraq’s capabilities and intentions that was made by this Administration and by the previous Administration. There was broad-based, bipartisan agreement that Saddam Hussein was a threat … that he had violated U.N. Security Council Resolutions … and that, in a post-9/11 world, we couldn’t afford to take the word of a dictator who had a history of WMD programs, who had excluded weapons inspectors, who had defied the demands of the international community, who had been designated an official state sponsor of terror, and who had committed mass murder.
See above link, and others. Also, ask the British Intel Inquiry under Lord Butler if Prime Minister Blair lied and manipulated intel. Was Egypt and Jordan wrong when warning US CentComm and General Tommy Franks on WMDs and their being taken from Iraq? Was Australia making it up and their own intel? How about Israel, and others who expressed worries before this war and the 1991 Gulf War? How about he UN's twelve Resolutions and inspectors noting deception and hiding? Was everyone wrong except Howard Dean and the new revisionists?
Those are facts.
What we’re hearing now is some politicians contradicting their own statements and making a play for political advantage in the middle of a war. The saddest part is that our people in uniform have been subjected to these cynical and pernicious falsehoods day in and day out. American soldiers and Marines are out there every day in dangerous conditions and desert temperatures – conducting raids, training Iraqi forces, countering attacks, seizing weapons, and capturing killers – and back home a few opportunists are suggesting they were sent into battle for a lie.
Opportunists, like the Senators who flip flopped in time for the elections, which they lost and will continue to lose. Opportunists, like Cindy Sheehan, who is leeching her dead son's memories to satisfy her personal hatred and craving for attention. Sheehan's gonna write a book, just you wait. Opportunists, like Michael Moore and his Fahrenhype 9/11 drivel, and sneaking behind tombstones to videotape our troops funerals, edit footage to make our troops out as thugs, and made our President out as evil. All of these parasites should be ashamed, if they were even human......
The President and I cannot prevent certain politicians from losing their memory, or their backbone – but we’re not going to sit by and let them rewrite history.
Owwwww! That's gotta hurt! You guys seem awfully craven and ready to cut and run, since it's a Republican in office. No one fled Kosovo when Hillbilly Clinton was in office. No one fled Europe when Truman and FDR were in office. No one fled Korea, despite Truman's whooping 22% Approval Rating in 1952. Why now? And as far as re-writing history goes, they're trying to do it, but they're gonna fail. The libs tried to rewrite WWII and Vietnam, and are now exposed for the frauds that they are. Kitty Kelly looks more impartial than these new hacks.....
We’re going to continue throwing their own words back at them. And far more important, we’re going to continue sending a consistent message to the men and women who are fighting the war on terror in Iraq, Afghanistan, and many other fronts.
Other fronts, like the war on terror stateside, by securing our land. The war on terror, outside of the immediate military combat areas, through espionage and interrogations. The war against evil, by pressuring countries to drop WMDs. That war has worked against Libya and Syria without firing a shot. Let's pray we can do it with North Korea, Iran, Cuba, and others. Otherwise, we get to finish business there also.
We can never say enough how much we appreciate them, and how proud they make us. They and their families can be certain: That this cause is right … and the performance of our military has been brave and honorable … and this nation will stand behind our fighting forces with pride and without wavering until the day of victory.
Well said, Mr. Vice President, well said. With pride, not the shame that San Francisco has in their recruiter ban. Not the shame that some mayors have in promoting protest days. Not the shame Sheehan has for her own son's belief in the war, he fought 3 voluntary tours of duty for.
And yep, he's pissed.
