TOUCHING MOMENT
Last night, a young Iraqi lady Safia Taleb al-Suhail was sitting infront of the family of Marine Sergeant Byron Norwood. Norwood's family was their in honor of their son who was killed in the Battle of Fallujah, which was in November 2004. al-Suhail is an Iraqi Democracy advocate and daughter of a slain dissident. Her faither was murdered by the Iraqi Gestapo on Saddam Hussein's orders. She voted, here entire family voted in last Sunday's election. The Norwoods were a regular family from Texas, and supportive of their son, the Marines, America, and the liberation of Iraq.
During the State of the Union, Mrs. Norwood and Safia exchanged hugs and embraced. Both were teary and weaping. Safia grateful for Norwood's sacrifice and that of 1400 other Americans and hundreds of Coalition troops. Mrs. Norwood grateful to see her son laid his life down for a Democracy and a people grateful to be free. Jewelry did get entangled, but both ladies were still good natured.
Mrs. Norwood presented Al-Suhail with her son's dog tags. This could be compared to the second John Howard Badge. John Howard was a NY Port Authority Police Officer who died in the World Trade Center, and his mother presented President Bush the badge. The Howard Badge was the one President Bush kept during the 9/20/01 Joint Session Speech to declare War on Terror. Bush has kept it at his desk, next to his Bible. Both show the charge and trust given and promise to remember sacrifice. Norwood's tags are likewise a charge. The charge for Iraq to seek Democracy and gain strength through freedom and honor, so that Norwood and 1400 others were not sacrificed for what the press would say is no good reason. Al Sahil and Noorwood are eternally linked in the War in Terror and the cause of freedom for all of God's people.
The moment is more than touching, it is reflective of the war. A majority are grateful for their new freedoms. The majority of America is proud to be part of that. Solidarity is here and let us pray it stays with us and Iraq, but grows to Iran and the rest of the world.
"Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is Freedom." - 2 Cor. 3:17.
