New Submarine, Sad Title

To those of you in the Navy, there may be some humor in this bit of news. Maybe some sorrow. The US Navy is now comissioning a submarine into its fleet. It will be the USS Jimmy Carter, a US attack sub. Here's the article. http://www.news.navy.mil/search/display.asp?story_id=17111 I can't help but laugh at that one.

Why name a submarine after Jimmy Carter, let alone an attack sub? That is so ironic. First, Carter was not an aggressive President. Naming an attack sub after this guy would be like naming a school on American loyalty after Benedict Arnold. Also, what did Jimmy Carter do for the US Armed Forces in his short term in office? I was born when he was President, and by what my folks and others said, Carter did nyet.

There was less fanfare on the commissioning of the USS Ronald Reagan, a massive aircraft carrier. Why? Reagan was aggressive. He helped end the Cold War, not prolong it like his predecessor did. Reagan also rebuilt a military degraded by Vietnam and Carter. The media is still playing favorites.

I do have to say this. I wonder how morose you will be on the USS Jimmy Carter, aka USS Appeaser or aka USS Peanut Boy?
