John Conyers and Liberals Rip Into War Effort,Spin Downing Street Memo

Never think it is beneath an out of power party with no connection to The American People to use a grieving mom, dead troop digures, and ambiguous memos to get their so-called point across. John Conyers is such a man.

Democrat Urges Inquiry on Bush, Iraq

WASHINGTON (AP) - Amid new questions about President Bush's drive to topple Saddam Hussein, several House Democrats urged lawmakers on Thursday to conduct an official inquiry to determine whether the president intentionally misled Congress.
At a public forum where the word "impeachment" loomed large, Exhibit A was the so-called Downing Street memo, a prewar document leaked from inside the British government to The Sunday Times of London a month and a half ago. Rep. John Conyers of Michigan, the ranking Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, organized the event.
Recounting a meeting of Prime Minister Tony Blair's national security team, the memo says the Bush administration believed that war was inevitable and was determined to use intelligence about weapons of mass destruction to justify the ouster of Saddam.
"The intelligence and facts were being fixed around the policy," one of the participants was quoted as saying at the meeting, which took place just after British officials returned from Washington.

And when did our people become such experts on British Policy? Also, if the Parliament under Lord Butler cleared Blair of any wrongdoing, and Blair got re-elected, what is there to contend with? Sour grapes pure and simple.

The Democratic congressmen were relegated to a tiny room in the bottom of the Capitol and the Republicans who run the House scheduled 11 major votes to coincide with the afternoon event.
"We have not been told the truth," Cindy Sheehan, whose soldier son was killed in Baghdad a year ago, told the Democrats. "If this administration doesn't have anything to hide, they should be down here testifying."

Define irony: Jerrold Nadler, a do-nothing Congressman is calling the President a fool. Hey, Jerry, isn't New York a state Bush sent billions in aid to after 9/11? There's frickin gratitude for you. Where's Rudy Guiliani or Ed Koch when you need them? Knave? Jester? Sounds like Nadler was an Ivy Leaguer with a 45 degree upturned nose to me. What's next, Jenjhis Kaaahn?

And to Mrs. Sheehan: I am sorry your son died, his sacrifice was sad, and we are sorry for his loss and thankful for his sacrifice. However, are your words emboldening an enemy to make more dead like your son? Think about it. The Administration doesn't have to hide, lady. You can e-mail the White House or President's Office. It's a free country.

The White House refuses to respond to a May 5 letter from 122 congressional Democrats about whether there was a coordinated effort to "fix" the intelligence and facts around the policy, as the Downing Street memo says.
White House spokesman Scott McClellan says Conyers "is simply trying to rehash old debates."

Scottie states the obvious. I imagine many in America feel the same way.

And speaking of rehashing old news, enter Joe Wilson......

Conyers and a half-dozen other members of Congress were stopped at the White House gate later Thursday when they hand-delivered petitions signed by 560,000 Americans who want Bush to provide a detailed response to the Downing Street memo. When Conyers couldn't get in, an anti-war demonstrator shouted, "Send Bush out!" Eventually, White House aides retrieved the petitions at the gate and took them into the West Wing.

Blah Blah, 560K signatures, probably all from the liberal colleges and parts of town akin to socialist leaning philosophy. Any more tricks with your dancing sheeple, Senator Conyers? And Conyers, do you notice that the same demonstrators are at EVERY PROTEST, every time? Get a job, you bums!

"Quite frankly, evidence that appears to be building up points to whether or not the president has deliberately misled Congress to make the most important decision a president has to make, going to war," Rep. Charles Rangel of New York, senior Democrat on the House Ways and Means Committee, said earlier at the event on Capitol Hill.
Misleading Congress is an impeachable offense, a point that Rangel underscored by saying he's already been through two impeachments, of President Nixon in Watergate and President Clinton for an affair with a White House intern.

Yeah Charlie, blah blah. And you didn't say crap when Clinton LIED about sex to the Senate and Supreme Court. Clinton was impeached by the House. Nixon was NOT impeached, he stepped down before he could be. Nixon, for the record, stepped down rather than tear the US apart and the venerated office of the Presidency. Clinton let the office be soiled, like the purple dress, and as a result it weakened us. Thanks Charlie, thanks a heap Bubba!!!!

Also, Charlie, get a memo or charges to impeach the President passed. Oh wait, you have to have a MAJORITY in the House and Senate to get that. The Democrats have minorities in the House and Senate. Plbbbbb! You lose, Chuckie, you mealy-mouthed old cow!

Conyers pointed to statements by Bush in the run-up to invasion that war would be a last resort. "The veracity of those statements has - to put it mildly - come into question," he said.
Former Ambassador Joseph Wilson said, "We are having this discussion today because we failed to have it three years ago when we went to war."
"It used to be said that democracies were difficult to mobilize for war precisely because of the debate required," Wilson said, going on to say the lack of debate in this case allowed the war to happen.
Wilson wrote a 2003 newspaper opinion piece criticizing the Bush administration's claim that Iraq had sought uranium in Niger. After the piece appeared someone in the Bush administration leaked the identity of Wilson's wife as a CIA operative, exposing her cover.
Wilson has said he believes the leak was retaliation for his critical comments. The Justice Department is investigating.

Hey, does Ambassador Wilson have ANOTHER BOOK to peddle with this latest bit of news? Your credibility ranks beneath that of Paul O' Neill, and even Richard Clarke who testified the week his book came out. Sour grapes. Take the leak up with Bob Novak. Oh wait, Bob got cleared also. Ahahahaha!

John Bonifaz, a lawyer and co-founder of a new group called, said the lack of interest by congressional Republicans in the Downing Street memo is like Congress during Nixon's presidency saying "we don't want" the Watergate tapes.

Zzzzzzz......... Hey John, take your paper and get more proof. Oh you can't since that memo was swiped, like the Pentagon Papers were and published. However, since the Iraqi Elections went successfully, troops are starting to come home, and the Iraqis are taking over most of their military, WHO CARES? Yes, you need more than a mediocre and fired Downing Street clerk to get some traction, pal.

Watergate this is not.

A political ploy aimed at trashing Bush, Tony Blair, and US-Anglo Relations this most definitely is.......

Democrat Wankers!
