COLD RECEPTION IN GERMANY, WARM RECEPTION IN SLOVAKIA

As you know President Bush has been in Europe, attempting to shore up goodwill and get aide with postwar Iraq. NATO is on board for helping the US. Even Chirac and Schroeder have shaken hands and made up with their advesary President Bush. Seems fine, right?

Wrong. In Mainz, Germany, there were over 12000 protestors to great the President and Chancellor. They had signs like Bush go home, Bush- No. 1 Terrorist, and Warmonger. Warmonger? Awww, well then what do you regard Kaiser Wilhelm and Adolf Hitler as? If anyone knew warmongers, it would be the Germans.

One German said this- "President Bush started a war in which thousands of civilians have died, needlessly." Wow, Klaus, then I guess Saddam would not have killed just as many on his own. Saddam murdered close to 1 million of his own people, Kurds, Iranians, and others. How soon you forget who the bad guys are.

One protestor said Bush comes to Europe to try and rebuild relations with us, that will never happen and we will see to that. America and Europe are too separate and should remain so. That protestor is right. America and Europe will remain apart if it were up to this narrow-minded fool and his socialist ilk.

Many more Germans though not Bush fans, are ready for America and Europe to get back to business and help the fledgling democracies of Iraq and Afghanistan.

However, Bush got a more warm reception in Bratislava- the capitol of Slovakia. Slovakia was once part of Czechoslovakia, which was under the Iron Curtain. The Slovaks, Czechs, Poles, and Ukranians on the other hand support the US and democracy. Some are uncertain of keeping troops in Iraq for longer than they are needed, but they are appreciative of their freedom.

Theirs had been taken away for so long. Crowds rushed Bush, not to protest, but to shake hands and greet The Cowboy. I guess that part of Europe still likes Cowboys.

Today Bush is meeting with Vladimir Putin to discuss the war on terror, but also Iran and The Ukraine.

Odd how one continent can have those who shoot you the bird, and the other has those who wave and smile at you.
