Bernie Kerik, Imperfect Man, Perfect Man For Job

Last weekend and part of this week, there has been a storm over Bernard Kerik, the former nominee to be the 2nd Secretary of Homeland Security. Kerik, was New York Police Commissioner from 2000-2001, and commissioner during September 11, 2001. Kerik was a Narcotics Detective before that, Army MP, security guard, New York Police Jails/Prisons Commissioner for the City. Kerik was also part of Guiliani and Associates, where he was sent to Iraq to help train and advise the new Iraqi police and intel in handling emergencies and daily policework. Kerik seemed qualified, right?

Wrong, Kerik was a flawed man. Well, that's how the almighty New York Daily News, NY Times, CNN, and other liberal media felt. Kerik made no secret that he was a high school drop out, born of a former prostitute who abandoned him and died violently. Kerik's matters of police work, stock options, and an old warrant are matters of public record. Now, they are all over the TV and internet. Surely a checkered past would work for some affiliations? I mean George W Bush, our President, had DUI convictions and according to some, questionable academics. However, this did not disqualify Bush from being elected, twice. A checkered past should not disqualify a man if he's done right since then and has tried to do good, right? Not according to the press. It only applies if you are Kofi Annan or Bill Clinton or Mark Rich.

Kerik also had an extramarital affair. Oh stars, didn't Bill Clinton do the same thing? Several times? Wow, what a high standard you hold to the man. Adultery is not right, but it seems fine when it's liberals. Conservatives screw up once, and they are condemned to hell. Wow, what a nice double-standard you weave, press monkeys. Kerik was with a lady named Regan, a publisher, and even had an apartment near Ground Zero. Kerik did not break the laws of NY, just moral and Christian guidelines. If he is sorry and is not doing this anymore, then let him go. Clinton's extramarital finagling was dropped by most of the press, right? Why not Kerik?

Kerik is targeted because he is a conservative. He is not a party man and is a professional cop, security expert. He spoke at the GOP Convention, which put cross hairs on him, from the press. Kerik is also a friend of Rudy Guiliani, former NYC Mayor, and before that a personal friend from Kerik's detective days. Rudy is a GOP supporter and a possible front runner for President. Kerik had to go, so Rudy could get hurt or knocked out of the race, by liberals or possibly other GOP types. Kerik also praised Bush and was handpicked by the President. Kerik's affiliations with Bush and Guiliani made Kerik a sacrificial lamb for some.

Kerik may have been Borked. There may be other reasons for Kerik being disqualified. Kerik was a no-nonsense cop, according to former detective Rick Santiago and others like NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly. Kerik would also tackle immigration head on. Kerik was known as a bull in a china shop to many. Some in the moderate GOP and DNC may have feared a Kerik that may do too much for immigration. Someone called in a favor and a reason was discovered. That was ironically, an illegal immigrant nanny, paid off the books. Illegal, but not prisonworthy. That nanny scenario disqualified 2 of Clinton's attorney general nominees. Either way, Kerik is nailed for this minor detail.

Kerik was also rumored to have a warrant out for his arrest. It is proven for a lien on a residence that went unpaid. Skipped rent, wow, if only NY and NJ could collect on all its skipped rent, there would be no budget problems if that could be done. But, it's not a perfect world, so get over it. Kerik was rumored to have exercised stock options. Wow, didn't Mark Rich do worse and flee the US for his part in Whitewater and now the Oil for Food Scandal? Didn't the Clintons and McDougals do some illegal real-estate of their own, also? Kerik screwed up, in personal matters.

Kerik did not screw where it mattered, according to many in the NYPD and other law enforcement. On 9-11, Kerik deployed police to the WTC, but also shut down the bridges, tunnels, airports, and various potential targets- Empire State Building, Grand Central Station, Rockefeller Center, Wall Street, The CHrysler Building, NY Convention Centers, and most of Manhattan. Kerik also had SWAT and Bomb Squads ready if gunmen ran amock or more bombings or airplanes crashed. Kerik got an A+ in emergency management. Also, Kerik and Mayor Guiliani were trapped for a half hour in a building, just a block from the World Trade Center. Kerik, Guiliani, the NY Police Chief, Fire Commissioner, and Deputy Mayor all got out, dust and debris covered. All of them saw victims jump from the top floors as Kerik's NYPD helicopters could only hover and watch the horrible events. Kerik saw and did much that day that would make many qualified as aHomeland and Emergency Security Chief. The press forgot all of that last week.

Kerik also had over 8 years on the NYPD as a detective, with Narcotics. He and Guiliani met through that as Rudy was Federal Prosecutor and trying to bust the mob, Wall Streets crooks, and drug lords. Kerik was decorated several times. He was promoted to Commissioner in 2000 by Guiliani. Kerik was at the helm of record drug busts and cleaning up Riker's Island as Prisons Commish for the NYC Jails. The press conveniently forgot that also.

Kerik also went to Iraq to train the new Iraqi police, intelligence, and counter-terrorism recruits. Kerik was there and was going to go back and do more later. Kerik got nominated, which put that on hold.

Kerik is now disqualified. Who do you know who can foot the bill of securing our borders and running an emergency? No one I know. The politicians seem to want a Cub Scout to fight a war that is in need of Cops and Soldiers. We cannot fight the war on terror with a scout troop with school board rules. Kerik was our best man, not the best and perfect man over all, but good for the job. I feel we have paid a price for being so picky and holding a double standard. To quote Scripture- You who impose laws and burdens on men that you are not willing to do yourself. Hypocrites! Just as true now as it was for the Pharisees. Next attack around, we may have worse and lose more people for the sake of the next trick poodle appointee. Thank you in advance, to the NY and Liberal Press from Al Qaeda.

Kerik was a sacrificial lamb for someone's agenda and it couldn't be more obvious.
