Heard Wed. mornings at 6:40 AM on Newsradio 970 WFLA-Tampa Also available on http://www.teddwebb.com, http://www.glennbeck.com & 441 Clear Channel station web pages across America.
Dan Rather bids farewell tonight at CBS, 24 years as the anchor of the Evening News. There will be many props tossed his way, what a marvelous career at the Tiffany Network.
I’m sorry, I don’t see it that way. Me memories of Dan will always be him yelling at President Bush the 41st, showing not only disrespect, but a lack of fairness. I will always remember Dan rather for not covering the Monica Lewinsky scandal until he was virtually forced to do by other news staffers. This takes place at a time when its front page news on all of the papers in the country, and all the major nets are leading with it.
I will remember Dan Rather for trying to influence the 2004 elections with a bogus story about President Bush’s military record, based on forged documents. I will always remember Dan standing by that story til the bitter end, when every one in America knew it was counterfeit.
Even Dan’s colleagues Mike Wallace and Walter Cronkite broadsided Dan in the final days. Wallace saying he was not as easy to look at as Peter Jennings nor Tom Brokaw, his counterparts at the other 2 majors. Cronkite saying he should have stepped down a long time ago, that he was 3rd in a 3 man race for many years.
While others will be crying a tear tonight, I will be saying “ good riddance”, and I won’t be alone.
That’s How I See It!
